Wednesday 30 April, 2003 Today we learned that Possum passed away. This day will remain in our memories for all times. As Possum reached for the Pinnacle of Rallying, a road accident left Possum for 12 days with the best medical care in Dunedin Hospital. The injuries sustained however confirmed to many that even Possum, a man often referred to as a Super Hero, was still mortal after all. Most of all, Possum Bourne was a Son, a Husband, a Father (of three gorgeous children), a Brother, The Driver, the Boss, a Colleague and still always a "mate". To many Possum was a hero, an icon, a mentor, a friend, a supplier, a customer and a celebrity, yet in each case a most respected one indeed. He has earned the respect of fellow Competitors and Fans in New Zealand, Australia and around the world. His (sometimes cheeky) smile, positive and outgoing attitude touched the hearts from the Youngest to Oldest, from the novice to the world-champions, and left a lasting impression every-time. After Forty-Seven years, of which Twenty-Four years of hard work in the Rallies, and enjoying this to the fullest, we say goodbye for now. Possum's track record with, to say the least, 7 Australian Championship Victories, 3 Asia Pacific Championship Victories, Two Times Winner of the grueling Hong Kong Beijing Rally is simply unbeatable. As a competitor and a person he put the `SPORT' into MotorSport.
We celebrate this Kiwi Bloke by carrying on his legendary work and reputation, proudly displaying your name "POSSUM BOURNE" It's an honour to be associated with the world's best
